Anna’s Notes
Brian Magee
Anna’s Notes presents a selection of photographs and writings made over a year or so when Brian Magee’s daughter Anna was seven years of age. For Anna, night-time was a difficult time and she would often become upset and want to stay up. By writing notes Anna was able to communicate what was on her mind and very often became the starting point for a conversation.
The majority of notes were written by Anna at night time and slipped under the living room door for her mother to find. The notes focus on concerns and worries that Anna had at the time, and was a way for her to express them to the people around her, particularly her mum.
The photographs were taken at the same time Anna began to make the notes and they act as a record of Brian’s own curiosity, fascination and attempt to understand this stage of his daughter’s development.
