View From the Sea

View from the Sea is a photographic/video project Giita Hammond made during the first year and a half of Covid, while swimming in the sea at the 40ft and Sandycove. In a time of restrictions, swimming in the sea and documenting it became her antidote; freedom and an abandonment of rules. The project includes seascapes and portraits of the women she swam with.

About the Artist

Giita Hammond is half Icelandic and half Irish, a mother of two boys, an artist and a freelance portrait photographer living in Dublin. She became interested in photography when she was 15 years old, experimenting and learning about photography in the darkroom at her secondary school in Reykjavík. A few years later she met her husband in Dublin and moved to Ireland. She graduated from IADT with a BA degree in Commercial Photography in 2005. Since then she has been working as a photographer in Dublin, her work has been published in magazines and online. She also has her work exhibited in solo and group exhibitions.
